While I was using the "DEMO" version of another compiler I came across something I hadn't seen before. When I used the wizard to fill in some data to see what the finished book looked like, the demo said that you could only use the ebook on your own computer and it wouldn't be viewable on anyone elses. Not transferable.
Could some one explain how this works please.
Thank's.

Hi Fabian,
You might be surprised to learn that Activ can do the same thing. When you complie an Activ ebook and use passwords the user will only be able to use the ebook on one computer once they have unlocked the book after purchase.
This is how it works. Based on the user's main hard drive's serial number a number from 1 to 1000 is generated. Each number has a different corresponding registration number. Once the user provides that corresponding registration to the ebook the ebook is unlocked.
If the user shares a copy of his unlocked ebook (along with the registration number) the ebook, in all probability, revert back to the original demo status. I say in all likelyhood because there is a .01% chance that any two users will share the same registration number. Don't know about you, but I can live with a one-tenth of one percent chance of any two users sharing the same registration number.
What is important is that when the ebook is shared is that it revert back to its demo mode. That ability is known as viral marketing. In fact viral marketing encourages users to share their ebook. The more systems that have the ebook on their system the greater chance of a sale.

Or you could try HYPrLock. Designed specifically for Activ E-Book it has all the protection you need to "Stop Pirates Cold". Unlike "online database services", HYPrLock customers do not need to "go on line" when they open your eBook.
Some companies charge $299 to protect an eBook. HYPrLock offers "Try before you Buy" or "Buy it Now" security for an unlimited number of digital products (Digital Rights Management, e-commerce Marketing Tools, Automatic Payment System, Instant Password Activation, Instant Refund Disabling and an exclusive Ultra PDF Security System) all for $49.95
HYPrLock for Activ E-Book can be used with any digital product including other eBook compilers.
