I'm new to ebook publishing and I am currently trying to obtain stats for sales of ebooks, where they are sold most and what are the most popular topics for ebooks.
Can anyone help me? Many thanks!

Vanessa,
I've been looking for those stats myself and haven't found anything that is solid. If you do find something please let us know.

Vanessa, the challenge - even if you could find "official" numbers is that there are many, many ebooks that are sold directly from individual's or company's websites - not through any publisher or ebook listing directory.
I myself have sold thousands of reports and ebooks, none of which would be picked up by any official count.
As for which ebooks sell best - I have come across ebooks that have sold well on just about any topic - gardening, business, parrots, dog training, health and wellness, mortgage advice, financial advice, hobbies, etc...
Trick is to tap into a strong demand within a given space, understand what information your market wants and give it to them - communicating in their terms what this information will do to help them achieve what THEY want to achieve.
Cheers...
Jeff

Ah the ebook stats question. Yes they are hard to find and when you do find them they are often misleading or unrealistic. Anyways to make a long story short ebooks convert at about 0.5% which is less than most online product but since they don't require any shipping or have high production cost the lower conversion ratio is fine with most people. To learn more about ebooks statistics click on the link in my signature tag to go to my website which explains ebook statistics in a little more detail.
