Hello, I am almost doen with my book and I have been looking at many of the help articles here, but I still need some help.
Ok so I have been online looking at SO MANY web hosting sites and I have no idea which is good? I have been talking to somone from Yahoo for like 2 hours. Also I talked to people at Blue host, but they were not as nice.
I just want a good place to be. It seems like tools like autoresponder, 24/7 telephone support, and e commerce sale stuff is good to have. But it seems like every site has some good points. I even tried to read reviews, but each review had different hosts, so it is hard to tell who is right or wrong.
And lastly, this whole uploading downloading thing is killing me. So I do not know if some sites I can sell an ebook or not. And I have read the article on ebook apprentice which talks about uploading to a url that is really different than your domain name. But I am no web designer, and so this is hard for me to understand. Because I thought that if your site was likewww.gggg.comand your download site iswww.gggg.com/download23456,then someone would be able to access it for free? like it is just directing people to a page on your website.
Anyways I just need a bit of understanding. Basically just wondering if I can pick any host? and how to get it where customers can download it easily without other people getting it for free.
You're addressing two topics. 1) Web site hosting. 2) Collecting funds for books sold.
#1 First verify what their up time is. If their servers are down frequently that could play havoc with your search engine rankings--not to mention sales. Also, verify with the web hosting company that it is okay to sell from the site. You don't need a SSL or Cart if you opt for the suggestion below.
#2 If you use something like Microcreation's APS (automatic payment system) you don't need to worry about protecting your download URLs. http://home.att.net/~microcreations/ With this program the user downloads the ebook and sees what you select as the 'demo' pages. Once the purchase is complete the buyer is automatically provided the Registration Code to unlock the entire book. (If you elect to use the 1,000 passwords there is a 0.1% chance that any two users will share the same Registration Code.)
We are using Pipex/Webfusion. I am reasonably happy with them. We use them because they are UK based, and we have a reseller account there.
In the past I have used ThinkHost, and was very happy with them
I would say, that other than that - the very popular ones with our customers are - PowWeb, iPowerWeb, and ICD - I can't vouch for any of these, as I don't have personal experience
