Active e-Book comes with its own security feature, which seems to be pretty good. I'm sure it isn't absolutely, positively foolproof because with enough time and money just about secuirty system can be overcome. There are systems that add extra protection against theft by having the end user's ebook to access a Web site for verification of a valid password. Besides being inconvenient to the end user there is the added expense to the seller of the ebook.
If the added expense/fees prevents one or two thefts the benefit of the extra cost for additional security isn't worth it. On the otherhand if, what the providers of the additional security say is true, using additional security should represent a substantial increase in sales.
Frankly, I don't believe all the hype from the security vendors mainly because they make claims that are not substantiated by imperical data. It seems like a lot of fear mongoling to make wild claims and not to support them with some sort of facts.
Have you used the additional security? If so, please voice your feelings. Let us know if you experienced a sharp rise in sales (% please) and if the added cost and inconvenience to end users was worth it.
