Error running from CD ROM

inetgoods I have a customer getting this error message when trying to open ebook from CD ROM.

"a DOS prompt window pops up and goes away quickly.  The header reads  E:\TAPPVA~5\DONOTC~B.EXE"

I have been selling this CD for a month or two with no issues. He is using XP.

Any suggestions

RiffRaff First thoughts, no particular order :

DONOTC~5 - "Do Not Copy", perhaps?
TAPPVA~5 - Any resemblance at all to any file name on the CD?
Has he any app running on his machine that might start with TAPPVA?
I would ask for a little more info from him....and whilst you're waiting for his reply, re-check to see if any of your original files have become corrupt somehow...

inetgoods Thanks for the quick help reply.

Yes Tapp and Donot are both part of the folder where the ebook resides on the CD.

Tappvar is the folder name and DoNotClick is the ebook name.

The ebook gets launched from a CD menu.

The CD is mass produced at a facility, so I cant check it on my end. But others who have received the CD have had no problems.

RiffRaff Ah....DoNotCLICK!
Next, then, is the obvious one -what's the error message actually stating?
Seeing you've had no other problems with users, it tends to lean towards something on his PC rather than the disc itself....maybe his reader's on the way out?
Dirty laser?
He really needs to "catch" that error message before it disappears!

inetgoods Well,

I started checking the discs on various computers I have access to and I am now getting the same issues with a laptop running vista.

Now his is XP but there must be some connection. Why only certain computers?

The same discs runs fine in others.

Could it be the file name being too long? I heard indows likes short file names.

I am trying to get the message but t jumps so fast I cant seem to grab it.

Now I'm stressed that customers will have issues for this unknown reason.

RiffRaff Start - Control Panel - Admin Tools - Event Viewer - Application ...error will be revealed by clicking relevant entry in right-hand window.
Should work in XP - unsure if same in Vista.....

Peter East Don't know whether this will help, but try:
'Start' - 'Run'. Type 'command' in the Run text window to get the DOS window to stay, then in the dos window, type: E:\TAPPVA~5\DONOTC~B.EXE

RiffRaff Inetgoods...
Out of interest, did you ever get to the bottom of this?

BestEbookTrade May be it is a kind of virus. Try to search another file with the same name on your computer.
