The service you refer to, Virutal Vault, is a service used by some to monitor who has access to an ebook after it has been downloaded.
Other options are to use an Automatic Payment System (APS) specifically designed for use with Activ. If you do a search of the forums you'll find several threads regarding the topic.
Basically there's a password feature built-in to Activ.
The Hyperlock and Virtual Vault products add an extra feature. The ability to lock down an ebook on somebody else's computer after they have got it (for example, if their money is refunded)
