tomt Hi folks,
New to the site and just completed registration. I am totally new to ebooks and trying to figure out how to start. From what I've seen, there is a lot to know. I downloaded some of the samples and "WoW" nice layouts.

Where do you suggest I go to figure out what is possible and what software is needed to do what.?

I have a large book (700 pages in word, 160,000 words and 2,700 photos). It's a bear to try to print and finding stuff is equally tough. Seems like a logical subject for ebook publication.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Storyman tomt,

Wow, that is going to be one huge download.  You may need to consider distributing on a CD-ROM.

Check out some of the ebooks available for free download on this site to get an idea of content versus download size.

tomt Thanks Storyman,

I figured it might be a bit much to download. I'm still in the very early stages of trying to figure this out.

I down loaded the trial version of Active Ebook compiler and tried creating a short chapter. Had some kind of problem.

I opened the document in word then saved it as an htm document.

I used the quick project function to create the folders needed.

I moved the htm file and related image folder to the source folder of the project.

I opened the project in Active E and hit the build button. Build was successful.

I hit run and clicked past the splash screen to my stuff. The text was fine but none of the images were displayed. The little red x like you see on a web page when the image cant be found.

What did I do wrong?

Storyman Make certain that both the HTML files and images are all in the same folder.

EBookCompiler In Word, when you save into HTML/Web Page, before saving you need to set the save options correctly to avoid the images in a different folder problem

There are screenshots in Getting Started section of our Help which show you how.

As Storyman said, most likely, you don't have the setting for the folder to use correct.

tomt Must be getting late. I missed the "all in one file" note. Saved the word doc as html with no separate folders and everything worked fine.

Thanks for the assist.
