When giving away a rebrandable copy of a compiled ebook, does the person receiving it have to be given both the basic .exe file of the ebook and the rebrand.exe?
Then, after they rebrand it, when they distribute it, do they just distribute the rebranded copy? If so, when the next person opens it, the customization option will be displayed, but will not be functional?
Yes - you need to give the ebook .exe and the rebrander .exe
They just give away the branded copy, which looks the same as the original except for the bits that have been changed by the rebrander. These are usually links, so if they don't bother to rebrand, it will have your original links on.
BTW, thanks for your newsletters, and I hope Mike is doing OK.
