A reader has reported a problem with an ebook which I co-wrote. This is what he asked:
I downloaded this ebook and everything seemed to be working. I downloaded the Wizard ( an unzip utility). I also had Unzip on my system. I used The wizard a couple of times and found it confusing.I jumped into the Web site tutorial and started to create my first web page using Note Tab light. I intentionally removed the Wizard. I saved my first web page. When I came back the problems began. I try to read the tutorials (in the ebook), Diane's and Joe's and I get "Page cannot be displayed" Now I'm lost.
Does Windows affect ebooks in the same way that it can affect other exe files? The book was compiled Dec 2000 - I'm not certain which version was used, as I didn't compile it myself.
Sorry I didn't understand the question or the problem, can you run it by me again?
Another question is the ebook in question made using Activ E-Book Compiler?
Wild guesses follow
If it is the 2 most common reasons to get "page not found" error are 1. Bad coding in one of the HTML links - although I expect you'd only get the error after clicking one of these links. If it's this you need to fix the HTML and recompile the ebook 2. Very low on disk space
My customer is using Windows XP, and his virus scan is clean.
He has had problems with other ebooks downloaded from the same site, although others from that site seem OK.
I've asked him to download a free book from my own site, to see if that runs OK on his system. However, that was created using v4.01
Is it possible that there's a problem with XP and older versions - 3.02 in this case?
I've never used XP, and he's a newbie, but I'd like to help him if possible, as he has paid for the book, and isn't getting much help from the site he bought from at the moment.
