My question is, how do you put a password or stop someone once they have paid for an e-book, returning to the URL and repeating the download, or passing the URL to someone else, by-passing the payment forms completely. As I said, I am new to this so I hope someone can help me.
you should check with your ecommerce service provider. Often they have script that masks your real URL and only works once. This way when people are redirected to your ebook download page they can't see your correct url or copy and paste it.
I can't speak for all ecommerce merchants but I know 2checkout offers this feature.
